    INFO / HISTORY

The Koszalin University of Technology/Politechnika Koszalińska is the only technical university in the region of Central Pomerania in Poland. It is located in a city of over 100,000 inhabitants in an area of beautiful landscapes near the Baltic Sea, about 12 kilometres from the coast with its clean sandy beaches. This region is part of “the green lungs” of Poland. There are numerous forests with picturesque lakes in an area of developing tourism, agriculture, food processing, and electronics industries.
The Koszalin University of Technology provides academic and technical education and is a leader in research in the disciplines generally connected with the region’s areas of development.

The University’s first text book published

1972
First BSc in engineering awarded

Introduction, by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, of 4.5-year MSc-degrees in: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanics, and Manufacturing Technology

1974
First scientific doctor’s degree (PhD) in technical sciences conferred

1978
First advanced doctor of science degrees conferred (DSc)

1982
Restructuring of former Institutes into the Department of Civil and Sanitary Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering

1985
Founding of the interdepartmental School of Pedagogics

1986
Establishment of the Regional Laboratory of Vacuum Technology and Apparatus Workroom, and the Implementation Workroom

1987
The right to confer doctors’ degrees in the branches of building and exploitation of machines

1988
First students in the branch of Technical Education, extending the technical profile of the University into humanistic specialisations

1989
Establishment of a new study branch: Electronics and Telecommunications

1990
Founding of the English Language Teacher Training College

1993
Defence of the first doctorate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering

Founding of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications and the Institute of
Management and Marketing

Establishment of a new study branch: Management and Marketing

The gaining of the right to confer doctor’s degrees in the branch of Civil Engineering

A new Assistants’ Hostel at Kwiatkowskiego Street is completed

Doctorate honoris causa conferred on Professor Michał Białko by the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse

The city computer network KOSMAN is built

Establishment of a new study branch: Agriculture and Forest Technology

Transformation of the Higher School of Engineering (WSI) into the Koszalin University of Technology (KUT)

A new didactic building is opened at Kwiatkowskiego Street

The computer network at Students’ Hostel No. 3 is put into use

Institute of Electronics transformed into the Department of Electronics

Professor M. Białko elected to membership of the Polish Academy of Sciences

June 8 – Jubilee of the 30th Anniversary of the founding of KUT

Department of Economics and Management is founded from the basis of the Institute of Management and Marketing

General didactic building at Kwiatkowskiego Street is inaugurated

A complex of auditoriums at Śniadeckich Street is inaugurated

Defence of the first doctorate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Koszalin University of Technology joined the circle of the signatories of Magna Charter Universitatum: Rector Mr. Krzysztof Wawryn, Professor, participated in the ceremony of signing this document in Bologna in the oldest university in the world.
