DIRECTOR
Mr Robert Suszyński, PhD MSc BSc
The Computer Centre of the Koszalin University of Technology serves to
administer the local University’s networks, servers and numerical
communication appliances. It provides services for scientific workers and
students in the area of research and didactics.
The Computer Centre is equipped with servers working with different
operational systems such as UNIX (SOLARIS, SCO, BSD), LINUX, NOVELL, WINDOWS
NT/2000/XP. Each of them fulfils different functions connected with
delivering calculation services, information and/or communications services.
The Servers’ resources provide access to over 1,000 computer posts situated
in the University’s buildings spread out over the city of Koszalin.
Besides the above-mentioned servers, the Computer Centre offers workrooms
with numerous, interconnected work stations, peripheral equipment (printers,
scanners, plotters etc.) and data transmission devices.
In the workrooms didactic training is provided in the areas of computer
science, advanced computer techniques, engineering design and other complex
technical problems. The training is led by academics from all departments of
the University. The technical and administrative service of didactics is
provided by the Centre’s highly qualified professional workers. During free
time the computers are used by students and academic staff, enabling access
to the software and international computer networks of the Internet.
In the Computer Centre there is a junction of the State Broadcasting
Scientific Network PIONIER and Scientific and Academic Computer Networks
to assure digital communication between Koszalin and the international
computer network Internet.
KUT’s COMPUTER NETWORK
The local computer network of the Koszalin University of Technology covers
five Campuses situated in the city connected by local structures or by the
City Computer Network KOSMAN.
The local computer network has been established on the basis of modern data
transmission media in the form of optical waveguides and copper lines and
radio connectors of high capacity. It provides data transmission in many
different protocols/reports. Because of this, all the computers and didactic
and scientific laboratories on the University site are equally able to take
advantage of local programme/software resources provided by the Computer
Centre (Novell, Unix, Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP) and world service through the
Internet network.
CITY COMPUTER NETWORK KOSMAN
The Koszalin University of Technology, together with other scientific and
didactic institutions in Koszalin, has concluded an understanding under the
terms of which the City Computer Network KOSMAN was built. On the strength
of this understanding the KUT plays a leading role in the administration of
the city’s resources. The network is connected by optical waveguides with
different institutions in the city area enabling many users to take
advantage of services provided by the Computer Centre and the world’s
computer resources. KOSMAN is an integral part of the Internet of Koszalin.
In the network a set of servers offers all services typical for the Internet
(electronic mail, sets transmission, remote work on distanced computers,
domestic pages placement, etc.).
To administer the network, the KOSMAN Administration Centre was formed. The
team of administrators manages through KOSMAN servers and transmission data appliances.
KOSMAN provides services for institutions and individual users from Koszalin
and its suburbs. Among the institutions connected are universities,
scientific institutes, some high and primary schools and local government
offices. Uninterrupted development continues with the purpose of allowing
the network to cover the greatest possible area of the city and
surroundings. Highly efficient digital communications equipment enables us
to include a large number of local networks. All communication lines
converge in a complex located in the Computer Centre, which administers the
whole system. |
